Alex Leite

Alexandre "Alex" Leite joined the Southern University volleyball program in 2026 as an assistant coach on Dawn Barnes' staff.

A former professional indoor and beach volleyball player, Leite brings more than a decade of competitive experience from Brazil, where he competed at an elite level while developing exceptional technical skills, tactical expertise, and a comprehensive understanding of the sport.

Competing in one of the world's most competitive volleyball environments helped shape Leite's discipline, work ethic, leadership abilities, and team-first approach. His success in both indoor and beach volleyball fostered versatility, adaptability, and resilience, qualities that continue to define his coaching philosophy. Drawing from a strong foundation in elite training, competition, and athlete development, Leite brings valuable expertise in high-performance sport, leadership, and team building.

Prior to arriving at Southern, Leite was part of the coaching staff at Spalding University during the inaugural season of the school's men's volleyball program in 2025-26. The Golden Eagles recorded the first victory in program history with a 3-1 win over Greenville on Jan. 22 and earned their first home victory less than two weeks later with a 3-1 triumph over Midway on Feb. 3.

During the 2024-25 season, Leite helped guide Georgetown College's men's volleyball program to River States Conference regular-season and tournament championships while earning a berth in the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The Tigers finished with a 24-5 overall record and a 15-1 mark in conference play. After suffering their lone conference loss on March 17, Georgetown responded with a 12-match winning streak and did not lose again until the NAIA Tournament on April 30.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Leite has worked extensively at the club and high school levels, demonstrating a strong commitment to athlete development, skill progression, and team success. His ability to connect with players while fostering a competitive, growth-oriented environment has made him a respected mentor both on and off the court.
