BATON ROUGE, La. — The Southern University softball team secured the Western Division's No. 2 seed in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament, the league announced Wednesday. The tournament begins May 5 at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
 
The Lady Jaguars will open postseason play against East Division No. 3 seed Bethune-Cookman University at 1 p.m.
 
Southern enters the tournament following a historic regular season that produced a program-record 32 wins, highlighted by a perfect 17-0 mark at Lady Jaguar Field.
 
The Lady Jaguars closed the regular season by winning seven consecutive SWAC series, including a sweep of Western Division champion Prairie View A&M University, and have won 22 of their last 25 games overall.
 
Southern will face either Eastern Division champion Florida A&M University or Western Division No. 4 seed University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on Wednesday at either 1 p.m. or 6 p.m.
 
Southern is seeking its first SWAC Tournament victory since the 2022 season, when the Lady Jaguars advanced to the quarterfinal round.
 
The double-elimination tournament begins at 10:30 a.m. CST on Tuesday, May 5, and runs through May 8. If necessary, the championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at the Gulfport Sportsplex. All games will be streamed live on SWAC TV.
