Lady Jaguars Shut Out Blue Devils in Doubleheader

NEW ORLEANS — Southern University picked up a road sweep over Dillard University on Tuesday at Wesley Barrow Stadium, earning a 9-0 victory in the opener before closing the doubleheader with a 2-0 shutout to improve to 10-7 on the season.

Game One: Southern 9, Dillard 0
Southern came out swinging in the first game, plating four runs in the opening inning to seize control early.

Keira Miracle-Tilford drew a walk and swiped second before Abigail Mitchell delivered an RBI single to put the Lady Jaguars on the board. A Dillard (5-8) error allowed another run to cross, and Laila Clark capped the inning with a two-run home run to left field, quickly building a 4-0 advantage.

The Lady Jaguars added a run in the second when Asia George doubled to left to score Kira Manganello, stretching the lead to 5-0. Southern continued to manufacture runs in the third. Laila Clark later stole home, and Katiana Maldonado scored on a wild pitch to push the margin to 7-0.

Southern added two more runs in the sixth. Madison Clark lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring in one run, and another Dillard error allowed a second run to score, sealing the 9-0 victory.
Despite recording just three hits, Southern capitalized on five walks, two hit batters and three Dillard errors to generate offense.

Jordynn Jennings (4-2) earned the win in the circle, tossing five shutout innings while allowing five hits and striking out one. Prestaish White worked a scoreless sixth inning in relief, striking out three to finish off the run-rule win.

Game Two: Southern 2, Dillard 0
The nightcap turned into a pitcher's duel before Southern broke through late behind a dominant outing from Aaliyah Zabala.

After four scoreless innings, the Lady Jaguars manufactured the first run of the game in the fifth. Jaciee Massey singled, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before Maldonado executed a sacrifice bunt that brought Massey home for a 1-0 lead.

Southern added an insurance run in the sixth. Ava Wallace singled to center and later scored when Laila Clark delivered an RBI double to center field, extending the advantage to 2-0.

Zabala (4-2) was outstanding in the circle, tossing a complete-game one-hitter. The right-hander struck out 11 and walked just one over seven shutout innings to secure the sweep.

Clark led the offense in game two with a double and an RBI, while Wallace and Massey each crossed the plate as Southern completed the road sweep in New Orleans
