BATON ROUGE, La. – Jordynn Jennings and
Prestaisha White were named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Â
Jennings earned her second weekly honor of the season after securing the win in the Jaguars' 10-4 victory over Memphis. The right-hander came on in relief in the fourth inning and delivered 4.0 innings of two-hit softball. After allowing two early runs, Jennings settled in and retired the final 11 batters she faced, not allowing another runner to reach base over the final 3.2 innings.
Â
White, a freshman third baseman, went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the win. The Sulphur native recorded hits in her first two at-bats, driving in a run with the second before later scoring to give the Lady Jaguars a 4-0 lead. With Southern holding a narrow 5-4 advantage in the sixth inning, White delivered a clutch single through the right side to drive in two runs. She later scored in the inning to extend the lead to 8-4 and help seal the victory.
