BATON ROUGE, La. — The Southern University softball team will be at Lady Jaguar Field this weekend to host Alcorn in a three-game SWAC series beginning March 27. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.

Southern (19-11, 5-4 SWAC) enters the weekend riding momentum after a doubleheader sweep of Xavier of Louisiana on Tuesday. The Lady Jaguars leaned on dominant pitching and timely hitting to secure both wins.
 
Ava Wallace paced the offense with four hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Abigail Mitchell added three hits, highlighted by a home run, and drove in two runs. Asia George and Izabell Astran each contributed two hits and an RBI.
 
In the circle, Jordynn Jennings, Chakirrious Parker and Haley Hinds combined to stifle Xavier's offense. Jennings was pivotal in relief, earning both a win and a save across the two games, while Parker picked up the game two victory.
 
Xavier mounted its biggest threat in the fourth inning of game one, loading the bases with one out. Jennings entered in relief and quickly shut the door, inducing a flyout before Laila Clark cut down a runner at the plate to end the inning. Jennings followed with three hitless innings to secure the win.
 
In game two, Jennings again delivered in a high-pressure moment, escaping a late jam with an inning-ending double play. She then closed out the game with a quick five-pitch seventh inning to earn her second save of the season.
