BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern University will open the season with a trip to Troy, Alabama for the Trojan Classic hosted by Troy at the Troy Softball Complex on February 7-8.

Southern opens the season at the Trojan Classic hosted by Troy. The Lady Jaguars will take on North Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Chattanooga, and Troy.
 
It will be the fourth meeting between Southern and North Alabama with the Panthers winning the previous three. The last meeting came in a double header on February 26, 2001 in Baton Rouge.
 
The Lady Jaguars have faced Troy just once before. The meeting was in Baton Rouge with the Trojans coming out on top. This will be the first meeting between Southern and Middle Tennessee and Chattanooga.
 
Southern is coming off the most successful seasons since 2008. The 22 wins are the most in a since season since that season and the Lady Jaguars will look to reach 20 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
 
The Lady Jaguars return 13 letter winners, including four position players and two of the three main pitchers from last season. Southern also welcomes 10 newcomers with and even split of freshmen and transfers at five apiece.
 
Katiana Maldonado and Asia George are the top offensive returners for Southern. Maldonado hit .297 with a team high 13 steals, while George was right behind with a .296 batting average and 12 steals.
 
In the circle, Jordynn Jennings and Aaliyah Zabala return for Southern. Jennings threw 61.1 innings with 33 strikeouts and Zabala had 58.2 innings with 44 strikeouts during her freshman campaign.
