BATON ROUGE, La. — The Southern University softball team will travel to Texas for six games over three days beginning with a double header against Arlington Baptist on Friday before taking part in the Lion Classic beginning Saturday.

Southern opens the weekend with a Friday doubleheader at Arlington Baptist beginning at noon before heading to the Lion Classic. The Lady Jaguars face St. Thomas and SIUE on Saturday, then North Texas and East Texas A&M on Sunday.

Southern meets Arlington Baptist for the second time after falling 9-8 at home in 2023. Saturday's game against SIUE marks the third meeting between the programs, with the Cougars winning both contests in 2020. North Texas holds a 4-0 all-time edge, while this weekend will be the first-ever matchups against St. Thomas and East Texas A&M.

The trip comes on the heels of a 4-0 showing at the Leonard Moody HBCU Invitational. Southern rallied past Howard 8-5 and defeated Claflin 7-4 before topping North Carolina A&T 4-1 and closing with an 11-3 run-rule win over Maryland Eastern Shore. The Lady Jaguars collected 34 hits, including 15 extra-base hits with five home runs and five triples.

Abigail Mitchell,
Jordynn Jennings and
Laila Clark swept the Southwestern Athletic Conference weekly honors. Mitchell hit .667 with eight hits and nine RBIs, highlighted by a 3-for-3, five-RBI performance with her first career home run in the finale. Jennings logged 11.2 scoreless innings across three appearances, earning two wins and a save while lowering her ERA to 1.87, second-best in the SWAC. Clark homered in back-to-back games, including a grand slam, and drove in key runs throughout the weekend.

Through two weekends, Southern leads the SWAC and ranks second nationally with seven triples, while pacing the nation at 0.88 triples per game.
Ava Wallace leads the conference and ranks second nationally with three triples, averaging 0.38 per game.
