BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Southern University freshman Maria Molina Diaz has been named Second Team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference, the league announced Thursday.
Â
Despite missing the first five games of conference play, Molina Diaz quickly made her presence felt. She posted a 180.89 average (1,628 total pins) over nine games to close the opening stretch of SWAC competition, ranking 12th overall and narrowly missing the initial All-SWAC cut.
Â
The Colombian native elevated her performance at the SWAC East Round-Up, where she averaged 185.07 (2,591 pins) across 14 games to finish fifth overall. Competing on a challenging pattern where no bowler averaged above 190, Molina Diaz's consistency stood out among the league's best.
Â
Her strong finish boosted her season conference average to 183.43 (4,219 pins) over 23 games, moving her into seventh in the league standings. The effort earned her Second Team All-SWAC honors, finishing just half a pin shy of First Team recognition.
