HARAHAN, La. – The Southern University bowling team opened play at the Colonial Lanes Classic with momentum on its side before grinding through a demanding lineup of nationally ranked opponents during Friday's traditional match session at Colonial Lanes.
 
Southern's opening test came against Texas Southern, where the Lady Jaguars mounted a late rally but couldn't fully close the gap in a 961–867 setback. Darian Mobley led the effort with an impressive 221, while Angel Stein contributed a steady 179.
 
The Lady Jaguars again found themselves within striking distance in their second match, but late opens proved costly in a 985–888 loss to No. 19 Tulane. Za'Viara Williams shined with a strong 236, and Mikayla Stephens added a near-even 195.
 
The schedule stiffened even further as Southern met No. 3 Vanderbilt, falling 999–869. Alanna Jones jump-started the back half of the day by firing a 238, making her the third different Lady Jaguar to lead the team through the first three matches.
 
Despite entering the day unranked, Jackson State sat fifth overall in the standings, ahead of five Top-25 programs. Southern pushed the Tigers throughout but ultimately dropped an 863–829 decision. Stein topped the lineup with a 213, becoming the fourth different Lady Jaguar to notch the team's high score, while Jones finished close behind with a 193.
 
The Lady Jaguars wrapped up the day against powerhouse No. 2 Nebraska, falling 992–768 to conclude one of their toughest single-day slates of the season.
 
Jones led Southern's overall performance with a 900 series, averaging 180 for the day. Stein followed as the only other Lady Jaguar to eclipse a 170 average, posting an 850 series to finish at exactly 170.
