HARAHAN, La. – The Southern University bowling team opened play at the Colonial Lanes Classic with an impressive win before battling through a challenging slate of four nationally ranked opponents on Friday at Colonial Lanes.
 
Southern shook off a slow start against Florida A&M, overcoming three early opens to close the match with four straight 200-plus games. The Lady Jaguars found their rhythm with scores of 205, 200, 213, and 200 to secure a dominant 981–697 victory.
 
The competition stiffened immediately as Southern faced ranked opponents the rest of the day. Against No. 7 North Carolina A&T, Southern carried momentum into the opening game with a 185, but 12 opens across games two, three, and four proved costly. A strong 209 in the final game wasn't enough to close the gap, resulting in a 1,027–830 defeat.
 
The Lady Jaguars were competitive against No. 28 UAB, but slow starts in the opening two games created a deficit they couldn't overcome in a 927–847 loss. Southern responded with solid performances in games three and five, rolling a 202 and 207, respectively.
 
No. 9 Louisiana Tech also tested Southern's consistency. The Lady Jaguars delivered a 216 in game two and a 188 in game three, but were unable to surpass 165 in the remaining games, falling 1,023–890.
 
In the day's final matchup, Southern once again positioned itself for a potential upset, this time against No. 5 Wichita State. With lane conditions tightening due to carrydown and affecting teams across the field, the Lady Jaguars stayed within reach and posted a strong 184 in game four. However, recurring opens limited their closing momentum in an eventual 869–781 setback.

Southern will open the traditional portion of the schedule against Texas Southern before taking on No. 19 Tulane, No. 3 Vanderbilt, Jackson State, and No. 2 Nebraska.
