Bowling Finishes Eighth in Season-Opening Tournament

BATON ROUGE, La. | Southern finished eighth in its first tournament of the year as they hosted the Southern Queen's Invitational over the weekend, while Jermyah Bolden finished ninth overall and Jailyn Rodgers finished 10th.

Bolden finished with an average of 186.20 in five matches, while Jailyn Rogers (10th) finished with an average of 184.60.

Southern (4-8) won a pair of matches on the opening day of the tournament in Baker play opening up with win over Grambling State 848-734. The Jaguars dropped the next two matches 869-801 to #12 Tulane and Texas Southern 827-794.
 
SU would regroup and defeat Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Alabama State 869-858. 

They closed out day one with an 866-843 win over Morgan State.

The Jaguars showed a lot of fight in Traditional play on day two of the tournament with two close losses to Jackson State, dropping the first match 843-829 and the second 912-849. They dropped the last two matches of the day to UAB (1007-893) and to No. 8 Sam Houston State (1009-769).

In bracket play, Southern won its first match to Texas Southern 4-2, before dropping to Jackson State 4-1 in elimination bracket play. They fell in their last match of the weekend to Texas Southern 4-1.
