SAN ANTONIO, TX — The Southern University bowling team competes in the first SWAC round up of the season to defend their 2023 SWAC Regular season title. The Lday Jaguars finished the weekend with a 4-3 record and only a couple games out of first place.
After being delayed on Friday the first round up didn't get started until Saturday morning due to the inclement weather.
SU opened up the SWAC round-up with Alabama A&M. The Jags defeated the Bulldogs 871-867. The Jaguars dropped their second match of the day to Texas Southern 906-911. The Jags defeated FAMU 820-778 in their third game of the day and close out with a loss to Alabama State on Saturday night 992-924. On Saturday Su went 2-2.
On Sunday SU went 2-1 defeating Jackson State 818-703 and Grambling State 896-691, but dropped the middle game to prairie View 808-833.
Jermyah Bolden is the leading candidate for Freshman of the Year after the first Southwestern Athletic Conference Round-Up with an average score of 176.57. Bolden had two matches this weekend with scores over 200-points. Junior, Jailyn Rogers finished the weekend ranked number two in the conference with an average score of 191.29. She is less than four point out of first place. Kelsey Quinney finished the weekend averaging 179.91. All bowlers competed in all seven matches.
UP NEXT
The Jaguars return to action this weekend as the compete in the Prairie View Invitational at the ITRC in Arlington, TX. Competition will start Friday, January 26th to Sunday, January 28th.
