Lafayette Collins Earns SWAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Southern's Lafayette Collins its Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for his outstanding performance during competition this past week.

Runner of the Week
Collins led the charge for the Jaguars with a time of 21:04.2 to place him 15th out of 58 runners at the McNeese State Cowboy Stampede.

The Jaguars will be back in action on September 30 when they travel to Thibodaux, Louisiana for the Nicholls Cross Country Invite. The women will take the course at 8:00 a.m. for an 5k followed by the men at 8:30 a.m. for a 4 Mile.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) is considered one of the premier HBCU conferences in the country and currently ranks among the elite in the nation in terms of HBCU alumni playing with professional sports teams.

Current championship competition offered by the league includes competition for men in Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field, and Tennis.

Women's competition is offered in the sports of Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, and Volleyball.
