LORMAN, MS – Southern had 15 hits in two games against Alcorn State on Saturday afternoon in Lorman, Mississippi, but could not produce enough runs to get past the Lady Braves. Alcorn took game one, 8-4, and game two, 7-1.
Southern dropped to 13-29 overall and 8-12 in SWAC play. Alcorn improved to 11-26 and 8-11 in conference.
GAME 1: Southern 4, Alcorn 8

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Asia George started the game with a walk that led to Southern taking a 2-0 lead. Sydney Wesley would single to right center to score George all the way from first. With Wesley on second, Anabella Valadez singled to left and Alana Mark hit a sacrifice fly to score Wesley.
- Alcorn had five straight hits to open the bottom of the second and scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead.
- McKenzie Ogden would single to open the third. Wesley would sacrifice bunt moved Ogden over to third. Ogden would score on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 4-3.
- Alcorn would extend the lead back to two in the bottom half of the inning, but Valadez would induce a pop up to second to end the inning.
- Kameryn Adkins would start the fourth with a single up the middle. A bunt by Raquel Latta and a fly ball to center by Alissa Castaneda would move Adkins to third. George would get a single to score Adkins and cut the lead to 5-4.
- Alcorn would get three runs over the final three innings and the Lady Jaguars would get a runner on in each inning but was not able to score runs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Southern outhit Alcorn 10-8.
- The Lady Jaguars committed four errors while Alcorn had one.
- Southern would leave seven runners stranded and Alcorn left four on base.
- Southern drew two walks and struck out one time.
- Valadez and Mark were 2-for-3 to lead Southern offensively. Mark finished with an RBI.
- Mikeria Howard and Jamyiah Cotton went 2-for-3 to lead Alcorn. Howard finished with 3 RBIs while Cotton finished with one RBI.
GAME 2: Southern 1, Alcorn 7

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alcorn would have a runner on third with two outs before getting five straight batters on base to score four runs in the bottom of the first.
- The Lady Braves would score two more in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-0.
- Southern would finally break through and get on the board in the sixth. Mark would reach on a miscue by Alcorn and advance to third on a single by Adkins. Mark would score on a ground out to third by Jaeslyn Frazier.
- Alcorn added one more in the sixth to make the final score 7-1.
- Southern left atleast one runner on base in every inning.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Alcorn outhit Southern 7-5
- Both teams committed one error.
- Southern would leave eight runners stranded and Alcorn left four on base.
- Southern drew three walks and struck out three times.
- Adkins finished 2-for-3 to lead Southern offensively. Frazier finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.
- Kiri Parker finished 3-for-2 with an RBI and scored twice to lead Alcorn.
