Lady Jaguars Final Push Towards Postseason Begins With a Trip to Alcorn

LORAMAN, MS Southern is looking to make a push towards locking up a berth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament as they travel to Lorman, Mississippi for a three-game series against Alcorn State University on April 22-23.
 
Saturday's games will be played at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and Sunday's game will start at noon.
 
Southern (13-27, 8-10 SWAC) is currently in fourth place in the Western Division of the SWAC standings. The Lady Jaguars are one and half games ahead of Alcorn and three wins in the final two weeks of the regular season will secure a tournament berth.
 
Southern has won five straight games, including a three-game sweep of Arkansas – Pine Bluff and a weekday win against Xavier of New Orleans.
 
Alcorn (9-26, 6-11) lost their series to Texas Southern two games to one. TSU took games one and two with scores of 3-10 and 5-7. Alcorn won the series finale 7-0.
 
Southern took the first series played between the two teams by winning the first two games. The last 10 games have seen a 5-5 split.
 
Jaeslyn Frazier is hitting .310 with two doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs on the season to lead Southern at the plate. Anabella Valadez is hitting .291 with five doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs. Sydney Wesley, Alana Mark and McKenzie Ogden are all hitting over .280. Mark has a team high six doubles, five home runs and 24 RBIs.
 
In the circle, Valadez leads the Lady Jaguars with a 5.3 ERA in 86.2 innings. Valadez has struck out 47 and walked 30. Kairah Williams has 31 strikeouts in 65.1 innings. Raquel Latta and Chakirrious Parker continue to see more time in the circle. Latta now has 73 innings where she has 32 strikeouts to just 11 walks with a 6-5 record. Chakirrious Parker has a 4.18 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 23.2 innings.
 
Alcorn has two batters hitting over .300 on the season. Jamiyah Cotton leads the team with a .326 average and five home runs. Kristian Edwards is hitting .320 with a team high nine triples and 24 RBIs.
 
Alexa Veamoi, Kiri Parker and Mikeria Howard lead the Lady Braves in the circle. Veamoi has a 4-11 record with a 4.86 ERA in 90.2 innings of work striking out 40 and walking 28. Kiri Parker is 6-8 on the year with a 5.17 ERA in 92.1 innings with 50 strikeouts and 55 walks. Howard is 4-9 with a 7.14 ERA in 75.2 innings and 28 strikeouts and 26 walks.
