Box Score 2 BATON ROUGE, LA – Southern used the long ball in the second game of a doubleheader with Texas Southern to split the games at Lady Jaguar Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Texas Southern took game one 6-3 in eight innings before Southern took game two 5-3.
Southern is now 9-27 overall and 5-10 in SWAC play. Texas Southern's record moved to 10-18 and 7-8 in league play.
GAME 1: Southern 3, Texas Southern 6

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Texas Southern scored three runs in the third. After loading the, the Tigers scored off a single, a hit batter and a wild pitch. Raquel Latta came in to induce a ground ball to third where Aylani Ottley tagged the runner out to end the top half of the inning.
- Southern responded with a run of their own in the bottom half. After a walk to Anabella Valadez and a single by Alana Mark, Blair Willis sacrificed them over and Jaeslyn Frazier singled up the middle to score Valadez.
- The Lady Jaguars would tie things up in the fourth when Sydney Wesley started off by singling through the right side of the infield. Valadez would single to right field and would come home on a double by Mark. Fraizer would get her second RBI when she hit a ball through the left side to score Mark.
- Southern would get two hits over the next three innings, but could not produce any runs. TSU would go down in order in those innings.
- TSU would score three runs in the eighth off four hits to take the game 6-3.

- Hits were tied at 9 apiece.
- Texas Southern would commit three errors while Southern committed one.
- Southern would leave six runners stranded and TSU left eight on base.
- Southern drew two walks and struck out five times.
- Mark went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored once. Fraizer went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
- Nine different Tiger batters had a hit in the contest led by Saniah Henderson going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Texas Southern jumped on the board first after a three-run home run, but Southern got out of the jam to limit TSU to a 3-0 lead.
- Southern would respond by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Asia George led off with a double to center field. After stealing third, George would score on a groundout by McKenzie Ogden. Wesley would single through the right side. Paytin Mercado would pinch run, steal second and come around to score on a ground out by Valadez.
- The Lady Jaguars would take the lead in the bottom of the second after Frazier and Kairah Williams would hit back-to-back home runs. George would single and steal second and third. Ogden would bring George in with an RBI single up the middle, giving Southern a 5-3 lead.
- TSU would get two runners on in the fourth with less than one out but Williams would shut the door inducing a fly out to right field and line out to third.
- Texas Southern would threaten again in the fifth by getting runners on second and third with no outs, but Southern would once again get out of the jam by getting the next three batters out.
- Southern would threatened in the fifth with a single by Welsey and Willis but could not extend their lead.
- The Tigers would get two runners on for the third straight inning but Southern would shut the door on any Tiger threat.

- George, Wesley and Willis collected two hits apiece. George finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Welsey and Willis each finished 2-for-3. Ogden finished with two RBI on one hit.
- Madison Griggs finished 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead Texas Southern at the plate.
UP NEXT
Southern returns to action on April 14-15 for a three-game series against the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff. Friday's game is scheduled for 5 p.m. and Saturday's games will start at noon.
