Southern Picks up Three Wins on the Opening Day of the TNBA/HBCU Invitational

DOUGSLVILLE, Ga.The Lady Jaguars were able to pick up three wins on the tough pattern at the TNBA/HBCU Invitational on Friday at Southern Lanes.
 
Southern (56-43) finds themselves sitting in fifth place with a total pin count of 4,125, just 373 pins behind leader Jackson State.
 
Opening the tournament, Southern took a couple games to get things going against Grambling. Shooting 123, 133, 180, 149 and 167, the Lady Jaguars were able to pull off a 752-643 win against their rivals. Grambling shot 113, 119, 121, 168 and 122.
 
Picking things up in the second match against Texas Southern, the Lady Jaguars picked up an 880-867 win. Southern had games of 174, 169, 194, 171 and 172. TSU finished with games of 134, 224, 173, 150 and 186.
 
Alabama State gave the Lady Jaguars their first loss on the day. Southern would have solid games, but two low games would doom them. Shooting 176, 192, 135, 128 and 150, the Lady Jaguars would lose 856-781. ASU finished with games of 179, 168, 203, 153 and 153.
 
Norfolk State would give Southern their second straight loss, 859-788. The Lady Jaguars shot 180, 176, 126, 137 and 169. Norfolk finished with a 191, 141, 128, 188 and 211.
 
Southern would get back in the win column against Jackson State with a 924-887 win. The Lady Jaguars shot games of 192, 156, 168, 215 and 193. JSU would finish the day with games of 165, 187, 154, 174 and 207.
 
UP NEXT
The TNBA/HBCU Invitational continues on Saturday. The Lady Jaguars will have five traditional 5-person games.
