PINE BLUFF, AR – Southern's softball team split a pair with the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff to open the Southwestern Athletic Conference series on Sunday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.
UAPB took game one 3-2 in nine innings and Southern would bounce back and run rule the Lady Lions 11-0 in game two.
Southern is now 6-22 overall and 3-5 in SWAC play. Pine Bluff moves to 6-23 on the year and 2-6 in conference play.
Game 1: Southern 2, UABP 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southern would threaten in the top of the first when Asia George walked and stole second with one out, but they were unable to bring her home.
- Southern would get on the board in the second. Jaeslyn Frazier walked to open the inning, McKenzie Ogden would single on a bunt and Anabella Valadez would single to left to load the bases. George would walk two batters later to give the Lady Jaguars a 1-0 lead.
- Alana Mark would double in the third. Frazier would walk to put runners on the corner and Ogden would single to shortstop to bring in Mark and extend the Southern lead to 2-0.
- Southern would threaten in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings but were unable to get any runs across.
- Arkansas – Pine Bluff would get a homerun by Samaria Jackson to cut the lead down to 2-1.
- UAPB would tie things up in the seventh with a bases loaded sac fly.
- Pine Bluff would get two singles in the ninth to take the game 3-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UAPB would outhit Southern, 9-7.
- The Lady Jaguars had one error, while UAPB would finish with two errors.
- Southern would leave 12 runners stranded and Pin Bluff left eight on base.
- Southern drew six walks and struck out seven times.
- Ogden finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Samaria Jackson would finish 2-for-3 with a home run and Desiree Bumpers would finish 2-for-4 to lead the Lady Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- George would open the game with a walk and then steal second and third. She would come in on a single by Ogden. Ogden would also steal second and third and then come in to score on a bad throw by the catcher as she was stealing third. Mark would single and steal second, giving Southern five stolen bases in the inning. Mark would come around to score on an error by the center fielder, giving the Lady Jaguars a 3-0 lead.
- Pine Bluff would load the bases in the bottom half, but Chakirrious Parker would get out the jam by striking out Bumpers.
- Southern would get three more in the fifth. Ogden and Sydney Wesley would get singles and Valadez would reach on a fielder's choice. Mark would score Wesley, Blair Willis would score Valadez and Frazier would score Mark on consecutive singles.
- The Lady Jaguars would score five more in the sixth. Southern would finish with five hits, three doubles, to score those five runs.
- Raquel Latta would come in to pitch and shut the door on the Lady Lions to give Southern a run-rule victory, 11-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Southern would outhit UAPB, 14-4.
- The Lady Jaguars committed two errors, while Pine Bluff finished with four errors.
- Southern would leave seven runners stranded and UAPB left 10 on base.
- Southern drew one walk and struck out three times.
- Five different Southern batters would get multiple hits in the game, led by Odgen at 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored and Frazier at 3-for-3 with 2 RBI.
- Four different UABP batters collected a hit.
