ARLINGTON, TX – Southern had an uncharacteristic start to the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship tournament at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas on Friday.
 
The comeback attempt would come up short against Florida A&M in the Mega Match format.
 
Southern (59-48) got off to a slow start in the traditional five-person team game to open the match. The Lady Jaguars would shoot their lowest score of the season in a 868-730 loss.
 
Florida A&M would take a 27-pin lead in the Baker format after shooting 163 and 201 to Southern's 150 and 187. Southern would make a move halfway through the third game that would work and give them a five-pin lead after shooting 199 to the Lady Rattlers 167. The Lady Jaguars would continue to increase that lead in the final two games by shooting a 189 and 150 to 164 and 126 by FAMU. Southern would take the Baker point 875-821.
 
With the score tied at one, the winner of the best 4-of-7 Baker matches would determine who moved on in the winners bracket. Southern would take game one 209-179 but Florida A&M would take games two and three, 195-156 and 182-174. The Lady Jaguars would tie things up with a 161-140 win in game four.
 
Florida A&M would take the final two games but not without a fight from Southern. The final two games would come down to the 10th frame where some bad breaks would give FAMU the wins 187-184 and 166-145.
 
Southern moved to the loser's bracket and will have to win two matches on Saturday to move on to Sunday's rounds. The Lady Jaguars will take on No. 3 seed Prairie View A&M at 9 a.m. The winner of that contest will move on to bowl again at 1 p.m.
 
Saturday's matches can be streamed for free on BowlTV. Championship Sunday will be streamed on tape delay on ESPN+ on April 3.
