BATON ROUGE, LA – Southern (3-19, 0-3) welcomes Alcorn State (5-14, 2-1) in a three-game series starting Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lady Jaguar Field.
 
Southern is coming off a series loss to Prairie View A&M to open Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The Lady Jaguars lost 8-3 on Friday and 4-1 and 8-3 on Saturday.
 
Alcorn is defeated Arkansas – Pine Bluff 4-2 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday before falling 7-5 in the series finale.
 
The two teams have split the previous 10 games in the series.
 
Southern is led at the plate by Sydney Wesley with a .300 batting average. Wesley has hit a double, a triple and has three RBI on the year. Alana Mark is second on the team with a .281 average and leads the team with three doubles, three home runs and 16 RBI. Anabella Valadez has been hot lately, raising her average to .259 with two doubles, a triple and two home runs.
 
In the circle, Valadez leads the Lady Jaguars with a 7.71 ERA in 44.1 innings. Valadez has struck out 24 and walked 20. Kairah Williams has also seen a majority of the innings in the circle. Williams is 2-6 with 26 strikeouts and 28 walks in 50.2 innings. Raquel Latta is 1-2 with eight strikeouts and four walks in 19 innings.
 
Alcorn is led by Kelsey Lockridge with a team high .311 average. Kristian Edwards is hitting .294 with a team high two triples and eight RBI.
 
Alexa Veamoi is 2-4 with a 6.55 ERA in the circle. Veamoi has struck out 15 while walking 12 in 34.1 innings. Kiri Parker is 2-5 with an 8.92 ERA with 30 strikeouts and 24 walks in 38.1 innings.
