BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Southwestern Athletic Conference recognized its 2023 All-SWAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field team and individual award winners on Friday. The all-conference honors were awarded to the top two finishers per individual event at the 2023 SWAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Trinity Bolden,
A'ja Gore,
Nicholas Scott,
Jordan Thompson and
Kevon Hamilton all earned the honors based on their podium finishes at the SWAC Indoor Championships.
Coming in as the favorite, Bolden did not disappoint in winning her second consecutive SWAC gold in the 60m. She blew by the field with an impressive 7.46 seconds, just 0.06 behind her personal best set at last year's championship.
Another favorite would win his back-to-back title by 1.5 seconds. Scott would take the 800m gold easily with a time of 1:52.19.
The only hurdler to break eight seconds, Thompson would give Southern their third gold medal recipient. All but one of his times in the 60m hurdles on the season would have won him the title, but his final time of 7.93 would be 0.01 behind his personal best.
Gore finished in second for the women's weight throw. She would set a new personal best on her first attempt with a distance of 55 feet 2.25 inches, beating her pervious best by four feet.
The final All-SWAC honor belongs to
Kevon Hamilton in the men's triple jump. His third attempt would net him a personal best distance of 49 feet 10.5 inches, beating third by six inches. He set his previous best of 49 feet 10 inches at the LSU Purple Tiger to begin the indoor season.
Individually on the women's side Alabama State's Taranique Alexander was tabbed Most Outstanding Field Performer while Alabama State's Shamia Jones was named Most Outstanding Track Performer.
