Lady Jaguars Finish Fifth at Lady Techsters Classic

DALLASThe Southern University's bowling team finished fifth at the Lady Techsters Classic at USA Bowl in Dallas. Southern (53-41, 20-8) finished the day with a 3-2 record and finished the weekend with an 8-7 record.
 
"The girls bowled well today," head coach Barry Doyle said. "We ended the tournament on a good note with a sweep in baker format. Bowling against some of the best in the country just helps us work harder and get better. We are looking forward to some rest and taking care of business in the classroom before the final push in March."
 
Southern would defeat Grambling 808-749 to open the final day of the tournament. Jailyn Rogers would shoot a 186 to lead the pair. Kelsey Quinney would follow with a 176.
 
A rematch with No. 22 Tulane would be next on the schedule. Southern would keep it close early but the Green Wave would pull away late for a 1,012-904 win. Kymberly Jackson would lead the Lady Jaguars with a 214. She would be followed by Nyla Wilson with a 188, Lindsey Ugas with a 181 and Rogers would finish at 173.
 
In the third game of the day, No. 9 Sam Houston would be too much for Southern. The Kats would take the game 1,015-870. Ugas would lead with 189, followed Quinney at 177 and Rogers with another 173.
 
 Southern would get back in the win column in the final traditional game against Saint Anselm College. The Lady Jaguars would come away with an 857-832 victory. Wilson would finish out with a 205 and Rogers had a 182.
 
The Lady Jaguars came into position round in fifth place and took on sixth seeded Adelphi in the best 4-out-of-7. Southern would get the clean sweep winning 196-144, 161-138, 222-147 and 198-160.
 
Rogers would finish 16th overall with a 1,286 for a 183.71 average. Wilson would be right behind in 17th with a 1,238 for a 176.86 avg. Quinney would finish at 19th with a 175.29.
 
No. 9 Sam Houston would win the tournament over No. 2 Vanderbilt. No 13 Louisiana Tech would finish third, followed by No. 22 Tulane in fourth.
 
UP NEXT
Southern will take a couple weeks off before returning for the TNBA/HBCU tournament at Southern Lanes in Douglasville, Georgia from March 3-5.
