DALLAS – The Southern University's bowling team continued to fight on the second day of the Lady Techsters Classic at USA Bowl in Dallas. Southern (50-39, 20-8) finished the day with a 2-3 record and are currently in fifth with an 8,911 total pin fall for the weekend.
"The girls gave it their all today,"
Barry Doyle said, Southern's head coach. " Fatigue may have been a factor after last weekend, a short week, and then this long trip. I am very proud of these ladies, though. We are missing one of our better bowlers,
Alanna Coward is at home for nursing school duties, so our rotation is limited. Tomorrow we will continue to fight hard with the Jaguar spirit and get more wins to finish it out."
Southern would open the day against No. 9 Sam Houston but would not be able to muster enough as they fell 1,008-881.
The Lady Jaguars would win the final Baker match against St. Anselm 898-744. They would finish the weekend with a 4-3 record in that format.
The Lady Jaguars opened the traditional portion of the schedule with Adelphi, coming away with an 812-768 win.
Kelsey Quinney led the way with a 181, followed by
Jailyn Rogers with a 174.
Southern would bounce back from that low game but still fall 1,076-920 to No. 2 Vanderbilt. The Lady Jaguars finished with four scores in the 190s but two scores in the 250s by the Commodores would be too much to overcome. Rogers was the high Lady Jaguar with a 197. She was followed by Quinney with a 195 and
Nyla Wilson and
Lindsey Ugas had a 194 apiece.
The Lady Jaguars would put up a fight but he Lady Techsters would be too much in the final game of the day. Southern would fall to No. 13 Louisiana Tech 984-911. Rogers would finish out the day with a 201. Quinney would add a 189, while Wilson was right behind her at 187.
