Jaguars finish day one in 9th at Colonial Lanes Classic

HARAHAN, La. — The Southern University bowling team competed on the first day of the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane, on Friday. The Jaguars went 1-4 on the day in baker matches and currently stand in ninth place with 4,572 total pins for a 182.9 average. 

SU opened up the classic by competing against host #22 ranked Tulane falling to the Green Wave 1069-990, which would be there highest set of the day. The Jaguars dropped their second match of the day to Oklahoma Christian by the score of 965-872.

Southern would face another nationally ranked opponent as they went up against #10 Louisiana Tech and fell to the Bulldogs 1031-909. 

The Jaguars used a big 216 in game two to bounce back to defeat Southwestern Athletic Conference foe Texas Southern 909-902. SU started the match with a 151 but was at a 41-pin disadvantage. They fought their way back with 216, 167, 213 and 162 games to take the match.

On the final match of the day Southern fell to #8 Sam Houston 968-892.
 
The teams will play traditional competition Saturday with the top four in total pins advancing to the championship round on Sunday at Colonial Lanes.

The Jaguars return to Colonial Lanes on Saturday morning for five traditional games. Southern will take on #5 Stephen F. Austin, Jackson State, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, and University of Alabama Birmingham
