BATON ROUGE, LA – Southern University head softball coach Brittney Williams announced the Lady Jaguars' 2023 schedule Tuesday, a 53-game slate that includes 27 home contests at Lady Jaguar Park. The Lady Jaguars will participate in four early-season tournaments including hosting two of their own.

"We are excited to be hosting the Mardi Gras Classic and Defend the Bluff tournaments in Lady Jaguar Park," Williams said. "We have a good mix of players that are returners and newcomers that will help build off the success of last season. We have a tough non-conference schedule that will help us prepare for conference play. These are some teams that we normally would not play. The early season tournaments will help us not only play against some of the best in the nation, but also help us to get the Southern University softball brand national exposure."
 
The Lady Jaguars start their season at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association D1 Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida from February 10-12. They will take on Illinois, Howard, Louisville, Kentucky and St. John's. Kentucky finished last season ranked 21st and are expected to be in the preseason rankings when they are released in the next two weeks. They will then travel to Southern Miss for a midweek matchup on February 15.
 
They will return home to host the Mardi Gras Classic from February 17-19. Eastern Illinois, Arlington Baptist, Alabama State and Jackson State will make the trip to Lady Jaguar Park to participate in the three-day event just days before Mardi Gras. They will round out February with a trip to Alabama State for the HBCU Classic. In Montgomery, Alabama, the Lady Jaguars will take on Florida A&M, Alabama State and Alabama A&M.
 
March starts with the Defend the Bluff where they will host Alabama A&M and Louisiana Christian. They will then host UMass Lowell in a double header on March 8, before getting into conference play.
 
The Southwestern Athletic Conference play will begin on March 10. Southern is scheduled to host PVAMU, Alcorn, Texas Southern and University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff for weekend series. They are set to travel to PVAMU, UAPB, Grambling and Alcorn to complete their 24-game SWAC schedule.
 
Other midweek matchups include a home-and-home series with Nicholls State, home games against University of the Incarnate Word and Lamar. The away midweek contest includes a non-conference game against Jackson State and a double-header with Xavier University of Louisiana.
