DOUGLASVILLE, GA – The Southern University Lady Jaguars (48-44, 17-11) started the weekend in fifth and finished in the same position at the TNBA/HBCU Invitational at Southern Lanes in Douglasville, GA.
 
The Lady Jaguars started the day in fifth place and had a chance to jump all the way up to third. It started out looking that way but bad breaks forced them to finish where they started.
 
First up for Southern was conference foe Jackson State. Southern took the first two games 194-191 and 180-157. JSU would tie the match up in the next two 201-161 and 170-159. The Lady Jaguars would close out the match winning the final two 185-160 and 145-141.
 
Southern had an opportunity in the next match to have a chance to move into third. After dropping the first game against Coppin State, 190-125, the Lady Jaguars bounced back to win the next three 162-144, 157-151 and 162-147. Pins started falling for both teams in a high scoring game five but Coppin would pull out the one pin victory 222-221. They would use that momentum to win the final two 216-185 and 186-149.
 
In a rematch of the first match, Southern would look to finish in the top-5. Taking the first two games, 170-134 and 210-156, gave the Lady Jaguars the advantage needed to secure the match. The Lady Jaguars and Tigers would alternate the next four to give SU the win 4-2. The final games would see Southern shot 173, 180, 140 and 177 while JSU went 214, 160, 167 and 165.
 
Southern will now have two weeks to prepare for the final tournament of the season. After finishing third in the regular season, the Lady Jaguars will travel to Arlington, TX for the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship tournament. Last year SU shocked everyone to finish third and will look to improve on that.
