ARLINGTON, TX – The Lady Jaguar season came to an end in the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship match against Alabama State in heartbreaking fashion at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, TX.
Southern finished the season at 53-49, 17-11 SWAC, for a third place finish in the SWAC regular season play. After losing the first match of bracket play, SU had to claw their way out of the loser's bracket.
"Overall, the team bowled well all weekend," Head Coach
Barry Doyle said. "They kept their energy up and showed resilience and composure."
Southern would take the first game of the match 178-152. The would then lose the next two by the scores of 177-171 and 223-178. Trying not to fall behind in the best-of-seven match, the Lady Jaguars would take the next two 161-159 and 166-163.
The final two games would go the Hornets way as the Lady Jaguars were never able to score over 180. ASU would finish the tournament with two straight games over 200, taking the final two games 222-179 and 224-176.
Throughout the weekend, different Lady Jaguars stepped up and made the shots necessary to get them in position to win the tournament.
"Junior
Lindsey Ugas really stepped in and provided a big spar towards our success Saturday and during the championship match," said Doyle.
The Lady Jaguars will return all seven bowlers for next season and have a solid class coming in.
"I am super proud of this young group," said Doyle. "I can not wait to finish recruiting and get started on next season."
