Bowling Wins Four on Day Two

D'IBERVILLE, MISS.The Southern University Lady Jaguars (36-39, 13-11) went 4-1 today at the Southwestern Athletic Conference East Roundup at Cypress Lanes in D'Iberville, Miss. The Lady Jaguars had the highest pin count each day of the tournament.

A day after setting their high game and set of the season yesterday, the Lady Jaguars took that momentum into the second day.

"We attacked the lanes today the same as we did yesterday," Head Coach Barry Doyle said about the teams first 10 games. "I told the girls that if we continue to bowl like we did yesterday the wins would come and today they did."

Game one saw them set a new high game on the year in their 1,089-952 victory over Alabama State. Jailyn Rogers continued to have her eyes set on having the high average in the conference. Rogers came out and shot an impressive 257. Alanna Coward continued to have a phenomenal tournament, shooting her fourth deuce with a 226. Kelsey Quinney and Hannah Grather both shot in the 200s, giving the Lady Jaguar's four bowlers with a 200 or better. Quinney had a 208 followed by Grather's 207. Nyla Wilson wasn't far behind everyone with a 191.

Grambling was no match for the Lady Jaguars in the second game of the day. SU took care of business with a 924-722 decisive victory. This is the third time this weekend the Lady Jaguars set a new high game and the fourth time they broke the 1,000-pin mark. After losing her mark in the second game, Grather came back and missed only twice on the way to a 254 to lead SU. Quinney had a 223 followed by Rogers, 221, Wilson, 215, and Coward 181.

The Lady Jaguars didn't slow down against Texas Southern. Looking for revenge after yesterday's loss, SU continued having the hot hand taking the victory 960-825. Rogers led them with a 242, Coward had a 191, and Grather shot 190. Wilson and Quinney had games of 169 and 168 to close out the scoring.

The last matchup of the day saw SU take on Prairie View A&M. Even though the lady Jaguars cooled off the still shot a solid game. The end result would not be in their favor, falling 941-865. Rogers finished out day two with a 188. Quinney, 179, Grather, 174, and Wilson, 173, all had solid games for SU.
