Jailyn Rogers Finishes 12th Individually, Lady Jaguars in 12th After Day Two

HOUSTON – Jailyn Rogers stepped up in a huge way at one of the biggest tournaments of the year. The sophomore finished 12th overall with a 1,060 for 212 average. The Lady Jaguars continued to preform well against the tough competition on the second day of the Track Kat Klash in Houston.

"Overall, we had another solid day," head coach Barry Doyle said about his all around team performance. "Kelsey Quinney and Raja Anderson continued to throw the ball well today. Jailyn Rogers was sitting in the top 5 overall after the first four games but fell a little short the last game. She threw the ball well today and was clearly our MVP."

Four Lady Jaguars bowlers finished in the top half of the tournament with a 174 or better. Rogers was followed by Kelsey Quinney (178.6) who finished 54th, Raja Anderson (176.8) finished 59th and Jayden Hauck (174.2) finished 63rd.

The Lady Jaguars got things going early on Saturday morning, taking on No. 1 McKendree first time. They were up to the task and gave them a competitive match but the defending national were too much, taking the match 1,056-871. Rogers started her breakout performance in front of the powerhouse teams with a 201 to lead the Lady Jaguars. Anderson and Hauck were the next two high bowlers on the team with a 193 and 172, respectively.

The tough competition continued when the University of Alabama at Birmingham, who received votes in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) preseason poll, was next on the slate of matches. Rogers continued to strike on her way to a 225. The low game for the Lady Jaguars was a 173 by Nyla Wilson. Anderson (207), Hauck (194) and Quinney (192) rounded out the scoring. Southern would win the match by over 100 pins, 991-876.

Looking to continue to make a move up the standings, Southern would take on Upper Iowa in the third match of the day. The Lady Jaguars cooled down some but would still get a 138 pin win, 897-759. Rogers continued to improve on her previous games with a 235. Anderson had her third straight solid game at 174. Quinney would also continue to have one of her best tournaments in her career with a 174.

Another ranked team and powerhouse in No. 14 Maryland Eastern Shore would be the fourth match of the day. The Lady Jaguars would have a chance to pull off another upset but would come up short, 947-941. Rogers would strike out in the 10th to finish with a 229 to be the high Lady Jaguar for the fourth time. Quinney and Hauck would be close to breaking even, having a 200 game. Quinney would finish at 198 and Hauck would shoot 196. Anderson would finish with another solid 174.

Facing their sixth ranked team in two days, the Lady Jaguars would take on No. 15 Maryville College. The Scots would be too much for Southern, taking the match 1,013-844. Lindsey Ugas would come in and shoot a 211 to lead the Lady Jaguars. Rogers would finish the day with a 170.

"Tater Tot (Lindsey Ugas) came in again today with a big spark," coach Doyle continued about the seniors performance this weekend. "The last game she had the front five strikes and a nice 211 game. I am happy with our performance the past two days. We are looking forward to finishing up strong tomorrow."
