MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lady Jaguars forced a game seven in all three of the bracket matches Sunday at the ISTAP Hornet Classic in Montgomery, Alabama, but would fall in the first two rounds and finish in fifth place.
The Lady Jaguars had to beat the top three teams in order to win the tournament. First up would be a rematch from Friday when they took on Tusculum
.
The opening round was tightly contested all the way through the full seven games. Tusculum would open in the 10thg frame to give the Lady Jaguars an opportunity,
Jailyn Rogers would double in the 10thg, but would leave the bucket, 2-4-5-8 pins, would give TU the win 186-184. Southern would respond with a 178-168 second game, but Tusculum would respond back with a 202-169 third game. Southern would bounce back to take the next two games, 181-176 and 194-184, giving them a 3-2 lead in the race to four. Game five was no different than the others, another tightly contested game. The Lady Jaguars would come up short again, this time 191-189. Plagued by splits early in the final game, the Lady Jaguars would respond late but it would not be enough as they would fall 176-164, giving the Pioneers a 4-3 win.
Southern would look to get back on the right side of the win column against Jackson State. In another tightly contested game, JSU would pull out the first one 159-156. JSU would win the next two games 175-153 and 177-154 to grab a commanding 3-0 lead. With their backs against the wall, the Lady Jaguars would have to win four straight. They would respond by dominating the next three games, 190-151, 208-161 and 187-123. That would set up a deciding game seven to determine who would move on to the third-fourth place game. It would be another fight by the Lady Jaguars would come up short, 169-136.
For the third time in three days, Southern would face Florida A&M. Southern would get a dominating win in the first game, 176-109. FAMU would respond in the next two, 172-158 and 181-152, and take a 2-1 lead. SU would even things at two apiece with a 178-169 win. The fifth game would come down to the 10th frame with FAMU getting just enough in a 201-200 win. Coming down to the 10th frame again, a split by FAMU would give the Lady Jaguars a 170-158 win and force a third game seven. In the final game,
Jayden Hauck would strike in the ninth frame to set up Rogers to double in the 10th to seal the final game, 160-136, giving the Lady Jaguars a 4-3 match win and a fifth-place finish.

The Lady Jaguars are finished with their fall portion of their schedule. They will return to action on January 13-15 when they travel to Cypress Lanes in D'Iberville, Mississippi for the first Southwestern Athletic Conference Roundup.
