Lady Jaguars Begin Season at Rattler Invitational

PENSACOLA, Fla.The Lady Jaguars are looking to begin the 2022-2023 season on a high note when they travel to Pensacola, Florida for the Rattler Invitational from Friday through Sunday. The first tournament of the season is hosted by Florida A&M.

"The girls are very eager to get this season started," said head coach Barry Doyle. "We finished third last season in this tournament, and we are looking to improve. The field is tougher, but we are ready to roll."

Southern is looking to build off their finish from the previous season that saw them make the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship match for the first time since 2011. The Lady Jaguars will be looking to claim their eighth SWAC championship overall.

The tournament will consist of five traditional games on Friday, five Baker games on Saturday and three best 4-of-7 Baker matches on Sunday. Baker games consist of five bowlers completing one game with each bowler completing two frames: 1st and 6th, 2nd and 7th, 3rd and 8th, 4th and 9th, 5th and 10th.

Jailyn Rogers returns for the Lady Jaguars after earning SWAC freshman of the year honors. Rogers had a 187.346 average last season to lead the Lady Jaguars. Sophomores Nyla Wilson and Kelsey Quinney are also set to take over major roles for Southern. Wilson finished with a 179.519 average and finished in the top-10 three times. Quinney found her grove late in the season where her best performances came in SWAC competition.

Jayden Hauck and Raja Anderson are new to the team but are looking to be big factors for the Lady Jaguars. Hauck comes to Southern with a lengthy list of accomplishments during her high school career. Not only does she have multiple Louisiana High School Athletic Association records, Hauck was the 2021 LHSAA Girls' Singles State Champion and the 2022 U.S. High School Bowling Champion. Anderson comes to the Bluff from Jackson State. While at JSU, Anderson was a major contributor to the Tigers and finished in the top half of every tournament in which she bowled every game.

The leadership on the team will come from the three returning seniors in Kymberly Jackson, Alanna Coward and Lindsey Ugas. Coward finished last season with the fourth highest average at 177.25 and finished in the top-20 four times. Jackson and Ugas stepped up in a big way during the SWAC conference championship tournament last season, striking in key situations.
