HARAHAN, La. – The second day of the Colonial Classic did not go the Lady Jaguars (11-11) had planned, but the tough schedule has shown that they can bounce back at any time to make their move.
"We had a rough day on the lanes," head coach
Barry Doyle said. "We could never find a rhythm. It is early season growing pains."
The Lady Jaguars opened the day with they bye. Southern would get off to a slow start and shoot their first score under 900 on the weekend.
Alanna Coward led the Lady Jaguar effort with a 196.
Jayden Hauck would continue to have a great start to the season with a 190. The Lady Jaguars would finish with 878 team score.
A matchup that will be seen a lot over the course of the season would be the Lady Jaguars taking on Alabama State University. On this occasion, the Hornets got the better of Southern, 904-809. Coward would shoot a 188 for the high game, while
Nyla Wilson shot a 181.
The Lady Jaguars would take on national power No. 5 Sam Houston in the third match. The Lady Jaguars would stumble to their lowest game of the weekend. Coward would be the high scorer on the tam with a 171. SHSU would win the match 927-789.
Southern would start to find their grove towards the end of the day. Coming down to the final frame for the anchor bowler for each team, Florida A&M would get just enough to get by with a 862-860. Coward would once again lead the team with a 191. Hauck would find her way back with a 183 and
Jailyn Rogers would finish with a 176.
The final match of the day would put Southern up against another top 10 team in No. 7 North Carolina A&T. Rogers would continue her momentum from the previous game, leading the Lady Jaguars with a 212. Coward would end up second on the team in this game with a 189. NCAT would take the final game 983-872.
"We have to do better on days like today when it is hard to get going," Doyle continued. "Tomorrow is a new day, and we can still finish in the middle of this tough tournament."

The Colonial Lanes Classic continues tomorrow morning when the Lady Jaguars look to bounce back in the bracket portion of the tournament. First match will be against Florida A&M at 10 a.m.
