Lady Jaguars to Face Five Ranked Teams at Colonial Lanes Classic

HARAHAN, La.The Southern University Lady Jaguars are looking to make a mark at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane University starting Friday morning. The Lady Jaguars are scheduled to face five ranked opponents, including three inside the top 10.
 
"We are looking forward to this weekend," head coach Barry Doyle said. "It is a big field with a lot of top 25 teams competing."
 
The first day of competition will see the Lady Jaguars open with No. 24 Lincoln Memorial University. Two SWAC opponents will be up next in Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M. Southern will end the day with two more ranked teams in NCAA runner-up and No. 4 Stephen F. Austin and host No. 17 Tulane. The first day will consist of five sets of five game Baker matches, total pins will determine the winner.
 
The second day will not get any easier for the Lady Jaguars. The SWAC defending champions Alabama State will be the first match of the day. The Lady Jaguars will bowl the bye in the second match. The final three matches of the day will see the Lady Jaguars go up against No. 5 Sam Houston, Florida A&M and No. 7 North Carolina A&T. The second day will consist of five regular team games with total pins determining the winners.
 
After the first two days, the field will be seeded based on total pins from the previous two day. Bracket play will be three rounds of best 4-of-7 Baker matches will determine the final standings.
 
The complete field will consist of seven ranked teams and two more who received votes. It will also showcase seven of the eight SWAC schools. The joining the Lady Jaguars will be No. 4 Stephen F. Austin, No. 5 Sam Houston State, No. 7 North Carolina A&T, No. 8 Louisiana Tech, No. 14 University of Maryland Eastern Shore, No. 17 Tulane, No 24 Lincoln Memorial, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Florida A&M, Jackson State, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern.
 
"The girls are up to the task and looking forward to the challenge," added Doyle. "As long as we bowl like SU, we have a chance to compete against anyone."
 
Southern is coming off the Rattler Classic with a sixth-place finish after a disappointing Sunday bracket play. They came away with 4-1 finished on both Friday and Saturday that had them sitting in third going into Sunday.
 
Freshman Jayden Hauck was named SWAC Newcomer of the Week after she led the Lady Jaguars with a 977 for a 195.4 average to finish 10th. Nyla Wilson and Jailyn Rogers finished right behind her in 11th and 12th overall. Wilson finished with a 969 for a 193.8 avg., and Rogers shot 967 for a 193.4.
