DALLAS – The Southern University Lady Jaguar Bowling struggled on the second day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference West Roundup to finish 4-6 at USA Bowl in Dallas.
Looking to improve their position in game one, the Lady Jaguars took on one of the teams tied with them going into today, Alabama State University. Things would not fall their way, even with their highest game of the day they would fall 875-853.
Jailyn Rogers would continue her hot streak and lead the team with a 200.
Alanna Coward was not far behind at 193.
Looking to bounce back, SU would take on Grambling State. This time they were able to capture the victory in dominating fashion 834-697. This time the Junior Coward was high on the team at 210.
Having bowled against all seven SWAC teams, the Lady Jaguars would turn their sights back to Jackson State. JSU would come out firing on all cylinders and take the game 911-836. Coward and fellow Junior
Kymberly Jackson held up the younger group with scores of 192 and 181.
The fourth and fifth games of the day saw the Lady Jaguars struggle to get anything going. Both games saw SU set their lowest game of the tournament in losing to Texas Southern and Prairie View. Even with the struggles they had their chances at beating both teams currently tied for the lead. The finals would be 809-755 and 794-735. Rogers would have a bright spot throwing a 216.
Rogers is sitting just outside the top 5 in average, settling for sixth with a 180.6. She currently leads all Freshman in total pins with 1,806 and only a pin behind in average to Amani Moore from Prairie View.
The Lady Jaguars, who excel on the final day of tournaments, will return to action Sunday morning to take on Alabama A&M. The Lady Jaguars will also take on Florida A&M, Alabama State, and Grambling to finish out the tournament.
