Lady Jaguars Season Comes to an End With Loss to Alcorn

GULFPORT, MS. -- The Southern Lady Jaguars softball team's championship hopes were dashed with a 7-6 loss to Alcorn State at the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Friday afternoon at Gulfport Sportsplex.

The Lady Jaguars broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth, with Aubrion James single to center field scoring Hope Kruebee. Kameri Mott scored on a throwing error giving SU the early 2-0 lead.  

ASU scored two runs in the bottom of fifth to tie the game 2-2. 

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Lady Braves scored five runs taking the 7-2 advantage. 
 
SU mounted a threat of its own in the top of the seventh. Hope Kruebee was able to get on base with a walk. Next batter Kameri Mott doubled to right center advancing Hope to third and taking second. Aubrion James walked loading the bases for the Lady Jaguars. Annelise Corona reached on a fielding error by the center fielder as three Lady Jaguars scored.  Kaytlin Donaldson singled to center field scoring another Lady Jaguars run. But that wasn't enough as SU fell 7-6. 

Southern finished the season with a (12-26, 9-9 SWAC) record. Alcorn State (14-17, 8-7 SWAC) advanced to the championship game versus Alabama State Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

Two Lady Jaguars were named to the 2021 SWAC Softball All-Tournament Team.
