Gulfport, MS.- The Southern University Jaguars (11-24) defeated the #1 seeded Tigers of Jackson State (15-22) in their first game of the 2021 SWAC Tournament, 4-3, at the Gulfport Sportsplex.

Aubrion James earned the win on the rubber after pitching all seven innings. The Jaguars took the quick 2-1 lead over the Tigers in the first inning. The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the second and took the lead 3-2 after three innings. The Jaguars were forced to respond in a thrilling sixth inning rally.
Roxanna Segura flied out to right field in an effort to score
Aubrion James and advance
Kameri Mott.
Hope Kruebee was able to score on a throwing error putting Southern on top, 4-3.

Cameron Andrews went 4-4 on the night scoring one run.

Destiny Hernandez and
Roxanna Segura combined for two RBIs to help the Jaguars top the Tigers.
