HOUSTON – Southern (12-14) found their grove on Sunday at Emerald Bowl in the Track Kat Klash to move up two spots in the final standings.
 
In the first match of the day, the Lady Jaguars took on Jackson State for the sixth time in two weeks. Just like the previous five meetings, the match was tightly contested. With the score tied at three a piece, it came down to the 10^th frame. SU was able to do what the needed to and took the game 164-162, giving them the win over JSU for the fifth time, 4-3.
 
After the victory, Southern was guaranteed to finish no lower than 13^th and had an opportunity to move into 11^th. Next up for the Lady Jags was Valparaiso, who received votes in the National Ten Pin Coaches Poll.
 
After dropping the first game 166-143, Southern came back with some of their highest Baker games of the weekend to upset the Beacons 4-1. The Lady Jaguars came back with games of 188, 178, and 190 to take a 3-1 lead. Just like the previous match, Southern closed out the 10^th frame to take the final game 157-155,
 
That win set the Lady Jaguars up with their seventh top 25 team and a rematch with No. 22 Prairie View A&M. The winner would finish 11^th for the tournament.
 
The Lady Jaguars continued to have a great day on the lanes against PV. However, things were not to be in the final match of the tournament. SU had games of 187, 186, 168, 186, and 184 but PV had just enough to pull off the victory with games of 200, 200, 164, 244, and 184.
 
With Southern going 2-1 on the day, they moved up two spots and finished the tournament in 12^th place.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Jaguars will travel to Flowood, Miss. to compete in the Sonic Boom Classic hosted by Jackson State at Fannin Lanes starting Friday November 12^th.
