Southern Struggles to find Footing on Day Two

HOUSTON – Southern (10-13) started the day firing on all cylinders but couldn't continue to keep the scores up as they faced four top 25 teams on the second day of the Track Kat Klash at Emerald Bowl in Houston.

The Lady Jaguars had their highest score of the weekend in the first match against Texas Southern, but the Tigers were able to pull of the victory, 947-920. Freshman Nyla Wilson continued where she left off after her all-tournament performance last week. She led the Lady Jaguars with a 212.

The first of four top 25 teams on the days schedule was No. 5 North Carolina A&T. NCA&T, the tournament leader, didn't show any times of slowing down. The Aggies averaged 213 and scored a 1,069-828 victory.

The Lady Jaguars didn't let that defeat discourage them. They came out the next game and gave No. 14 Delaware State all they could handle. The game came down to the final frame with the Hornets taking the 32-pin victory, 889-857.

Next up for SU was another top 25 team in No. 18 Lincoln Memorial. After three emotionally draining games, the Lady Jaguars couldn't keep things going and fell 907 to 795.

The fourth top 25 opponent of the day and sixth for the weekend was tournament host No. 6 Sam Houston State. The Bearkats were the only undefeated team remaining in the tournament and had two bowlers in the top five individually. The Lady Jaguars caught the Kats on their worst game of the day but couldn't take advantage and lost their final match 945-857.

Southern currently sits in in 14th with 8,401 pins for a 168 average. With three wins tomorrow, the Lady Jaguars have an opportunity to move into 11th.

UP NEXT
