Lady Jaguars Pick up Three Wins on the First Day of Track Kat Klash

HOUSTON – The Southern University Women's Bowling (10-8) struggled at times but still found ways to win on day one of the Track Kat Klash Friday at Emerald Bowl in Houston.

The Lady Jaguars competed in five Baker matches and went 3-2. In the Baker format, starting members of the competing teams shall successively and, in regular order, bowl one frame on one lane. Once five frames are completed, the team members shall remain on the same lane and complete the starting member order again, with frames six through 10 being completed. No changes shall be made in the order of players after the start of the game, except for substitutes, although once a player has been pulled from the game that player is not allowed to return until the next game.

Southern got the tournament started off against SWAC foe Jackson State. For the second straight week SU and JSU had a close match. This time the Lady Jaguars were able to flip the script and score the victory, 782-778.

The second match of the day had the Lady Jaguars take on No. 20 Maryland Eastern Shore. Posting their highest score of the day had the Lady Jaguars thinking about an upset, but the Hawks had other ideas and averaged over 200 for a 1009-876 victory.

The schedule didn't get any easier in the third match. The Lady Jags had another top 25 opponent in defending SWAC champions No. 22 Prairie View A&M. Southern couldn't get anything going and fell 916-777.

SWAC schools continued to be the theme for Southern on day one. The final two matches came against Alabama State and Alabama A&M. After losing twice to ASU last week, Southern had one of their highest scores for the day and won 870-809.

In the final match of the day, Southern was able to finish on a win streak. They defeated Alabama A&M 839-753.
