Southern Bowling to Participate in Track Kat Klash

HOUSTON – The Southern University Jaguar Bowling team looks to continue their momentum from their third-place finish at the Rattler Invitational when they travel to Houston, TX for the Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State.

The field in Houston is stacked with national champions and top 25 teams. The field is led by defending national champions No. 1 Nebraska, No. 5 North Carolina A&T, and host No. 6 Sam Houston State. Other teams ranked in the top 25 participating in the tournament are No. 9 Louisiana Tech, No. 14 Delaware State, No. 15 Maryville University, No. 17 Central Missouri, No. 18 Lincoln Memorial, No. 20 Maryland Eastern Shore, and No. 22 Prairie View A&M.

"We hope to gain some experience, compete well, maybe pull off a few upsets in preparation for the remaining season" Coach Barry Doyle said about the competition.

The tournament is set up the same as what the Lady Jaguars saw in Pensacola. On Friday, teams will begin with introductions at 9:15 a.m., followed by warm-ups, and then will bowl five sets of five game Baker matches.

Saturday will have teams starting practice 9 a.m. before competing in five traditional team games. Bracket Sunday will see the team compete in in 3 matches of best 4-out-of-7 Baker matches to determine the winner.

Freshman Nyla Wilson and Jailyn Rogers will look to build off their top 10 finish in their previous outing. Wilson finished in fifth, which earned her all-tournament, while Rogers finished right behind her in seventh.

Due to Covid-19, Southern was not able to participate in last year's tournament. "It will be a great experience for our freshman to compete and the returning ladies are really looking forward to competing again" Doyle said about being able to return this season.

This is the 11th year of the Kat Klash. The first two years were held at Huntsville Lanes. Year three was held at Palace Lanes in Houston. The next six years were held at Emerald Lanes in Houston.
