Bowling Picks up Two Wins on Final Day of Sonic Boom Invitational

FLOWOOD, Miss. – Southern University Jaguar Bowling (18-21) were able to pick up two wins on the final day of the Sonic Boom Invitational on Sunday.

The Lady Jaguars were looking to continue the momentum they found yesterday when they took on Alabama State. However, SU was never able to string many strikes together and fell 984-845. Freshmen Jailyn Rogers and Nyla Wilson continued their superb season and led the team with games of 197 and 183 respectively.

The second match started the best four-out-of-seven Baker matches. The Lady Jaguars used all seven games to pick up their second win of the season against Florida A&M. Most of the games were decided before the 10th frame. However, with the score tied 1-1, Southern needed to close out the 10th frame to take the lead and that is exactly what they did to win the game 192-188 and take a 2-1 lead in the match. SU took the fourth game and went up 3-1. Southern needed just one more win to secure the match but FAMU came back with back-to-back 200 games to tie it up at three and force a game seven. SU collected themselves and took the final game 226-172.

The final match of the tournament found the Lady Jaguars looking to beat Texas Southern for the first time in their fourth try. They were able to do so taking the match 4-1. SU took the first game 174-146. Looking to go up 2-0, SU made a few errors and ended up with three opens and TSU was able to mark in the 10th to take the game 187-185. Those opens didn't slow down the Lady Jaguars as they were able to take the next three games. In the final three games, Southern shot 186, 209, and 204 while TSU shot 156, 195, and 142.
