Jaguar Bowling Strike Pass #9 Team in the Country

FLOWOOD, Miss. – Southern University Jaguar Bowling (16-20) got the day started by upsetting No. 9 Louisiana Tech and almost had a second top 25 victory on the second day of the Sonic Boom Invitational hosted by Jackson State.
 
The Lady Jaguars started the day out on fire by defeating LA Tech 926-909. SU was led by freshmen Nyla Wilson, 233, and Jailyn Rogers, 199. Junior Alanna Coward and senior Kymberly Jackson were not far behind with games of 180 and 177 respectively.
 
SU continued their hot start on the day by defeating Grambling 856-744. This game saw Rogers continue her hot start with the second highest score on the team with a 185. Freshman Hannah Grather led the Lady Jags with a 196. Jackson stayed consistent with a 174.
 
The third match of the day saw the Lady Jaguars fall to Texas Southern. In this game, Coward led the charge with a 193. After shooting 165 in the second game, Wilson found her groove again for a 189. Grather continued to stay hot after coming in during the first game with a 175.
 
Looking to get their second win against a top 25 team, the Lady Jaguars fell short against No. 16 Tulane 947-944. Two Lady Jaguars shot over 200 with another shooting in the 190's. Coward and Grather continued their hot streak, shooting 215 and 202 respectively. Wilson, 192, Rogers, 173, and Brianna McCurley, 162, rounded out the scoring for Southern.
 
The last matchup of the day featured the Lady Jaguars taking on host Jackson State. SU was able to take victory, 934-921, when Coward closed out the 10th frame with a spare and a strike. Wilson (201), Grather (194), and Coward (191) finished the day out on a high note when the three combined to shoot 586.
 
The Lady Jaguars will go into Sunday in 7th place looking to move into 5th. Wilson finished 6th individually with a 980 for a 196 average. Coward (915) and Grather (767) both finished in the top 30 as well.
 
UP NEXT
The Sonic Boom Invitational continues Sunday with three best of seven Baker matches beginning with practice at 8 a.m. and scoring at 8:25 a.m.
